The ultimate country house hotel
This magnificent country house dates from 1928 and was the private residence of an Australian shipping baron. The estate was converted to a hotel in the 70’s and began its tradition of hospitality on the highest level. Surrounding the house are the wilds of Dartmoor, lending a contrast between untamed and civilized landscapes.
Enlarged in 2006 to 24 guest rooms and featuring a complete renovation, the decor is inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement that flourished around the time the manse was built.
Guests will enjoy the warmth and comfort of fine wood paneling, richly textured drapes and upholstery and comfy easy chairs and sofas. The verdant views and manicured lawns provide a calming backdrop. The one-of-a-kind flavor of the rooms are complimented by all modern technological conveniences including WiFi and HD flat screen TVs. Bathrooms are marble and graced with Occitane toiletries.
A highlight of a visit to Gidleigh Park is dining at the hotel’s Michelin 2-star restaurant. The blend of modern and classic European cuisine has brought Gidleigh Park countless awards.
Activities on-site include hiking, lawn games, jogging and tennis. Guided walks of the wild and thrilling moor are available. A tour of the 45-acres grounds and gardens of Gidleigh Park can also be arranged. And, of course, breathing the fresh country air is available everywhere.
