Guest room

Rooms, each with a balcony opening to the sea, are decorated with hand-painted furniture, warm wooden floors, antiques and other objets. The light-filled chambers invite private reflection, while the spacious marble bath will rinse away the salt sea and air.

A gourmet restaurant will satisfy those on a tour de cuisine and the beachside restaurant has a relaxed ambience. Also available on site is a beauty treatment center, sauna and two pool with beach recliners.

La Voile d’Or
Location: 7 ave Jean-Mermoz, St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat 06230, France; most often accessed by nearby rail station, then taxi.

Luxury style: Privacy, pleasure, peacefulness–the Voile d’Or is a sweet refuge on the sometimes hyperactive Cote d’Azur. A romantic spot for couples of all ages.

What we’ve heard:
Like many Mediterranean properties, the view’s the thing. A room with a balcony will alway be preferable to garden views, although one will pay for this privilege.

As the visitor walks towards the historic Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat, he will pass fragrant pines and cypresses and then encounter a beautiful garden, seemingly a secret place hidden from the touristic clans, far out on this verdant peninsula. Formal gardens are complemented by wild rock gardens, all leading to an unmatched magical sea view.

As the last hotel on this stunning peninsula, this totally unique and privileged position has made the magnificent Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat a landmark on the luxury landscape.

The cool marble floors of the grand hallways are warmed by opulent carpets. Antiques are everywhere. Guest rooms are spacious but graced with every amenity.

Luxury travelers make a special detour to visit the hotel’s restaurant Le Cap, which serves contemporary Provençal cuisine with terrace overlooking the lawn and ocean. Another unique feature at the hotel is the Somerset Maugham piano bar, honoring the writer who was a frequent visitor in the 1930’s. Signed portraits of many other celebrities grace the walls.

The Club Dauphin, a natural rock terrace above the ocean, is reached by a funicular. Guests can loll around an Olympic-size pool. Alternative sunning is available on sunbathing lawns with private cabanas.

Le Palais de la Mediterranee is situated on the Promenade des Anglais, the beautiful beachfront at the center of everything in in Nice. Built in the 1930’s, the ornate and grand white facade has been restored to its Art Deco grandeur in a massive restoration in 2004.

The hotel, a landmark of style and elegance, has a commanding position on the Baie des Anges overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Convenient to all destinations on the Cote d’Azur and a gateway to the French Alps, the magnificent setting attracts international jetsetters, upscale families and luxury adventurers. Still possessing a casino, the air of the nightlife of the 30’s lingers in the halls of this place.

The third floor contains distractions of another sort — a beautifully designed indoor/outdoor pool, a gastronomic restaurant, fitness rooms, comfortable lounge and a sun terrace with spectacular views. The restaurant, Le Padouk, is a warm, wood-paneled temple of Mediterranean cuisine, with a to-die-for terrace opening up to a serene sea view.

Beyond the beautiful period public areas of the hotel are the glorious rooms which are strictly sleek and contemporary. Most of the 188 rooms have balconies and every modern amenity is included in the stylish and strictly 21th-century room decor.

Luxury style: Grand elegance on the promenade; great choice for travelers wanting the excitement of the city with museums, fishing villages, beaches, sailing, restaurants all within several kilometres of this interesting slice of the Riviera. An air of history lingers and you will feel like a character in a 30’s movie fantasy of wealth and plenty, lounging at the bar, trying the gaming rooms, strolling by the place.

What we’ve heard: You can risk your luck at the glamorous casino, but better to while away the time with a long cool cocktail or a glass of champagne at the happening bar.
